2012 Industry Achievement Awards

The Oregon Tourism and Hospitality Industry Achievement Awards recognize outstanding accomplishments during the previous calendar year (2011) and will be presented at the 2012 Oregon Governor’s Conference on Tourism in Portland on Sunday evening, March 18.

All nominations must be received by 12 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2012

The Achievement Awards that will be presented in 2012 are:

GENE LEO MEMORIAL AWARD

Purpose: Recognizes outstanding contributions of a tourism-related activity or attraction in 2011 which specifically focuses on Oregon's natural beauty or outdoor recreation.

Eligibility:

  • Nominee: an Oregon individual, organization, business, community, or tourism region
  • Nominee's outstanding efforts in 2011 resulted in the creation, production or maintenance of a tourism-related activity or attraction related to Oregon's natural beauty or outdoor recreation
  • Tangible evidence exists to support nominee's contributions, which also exemplify best practices and sustainability

2010 Recipient: Baker County - Anthony Lakes Ski Area

INTERNATIONAL MARKETING DEVELOPMENT AWARD

Purpose: Recognizes excellence and creative accomplishment in the marketing and promotion of Oregon during 2011 as a destination in the international marketplace.

Eligibility:

  • Nominee: an individual, business or organization marketing Oregon as a destination to international visitors
  • Nominee's international marketing leadership is considered outstanding by peers
  • Tangible examples exist of nominee’s 2011 achievements attracting visitors to Oregon, which also exemplify best practices and sustainability

2010 Recipient: International Air Service Committee

OREGON HERITAGE TOURISM AWARD

Purpose: Recognizes outstanding use of Oregon's cultural or natural history in 2011 to draw visitors to the state.

Eligibility:

  • Nominee: an Oregon individual, organization, business, community, or tourism region
  • Nominee's outstanding use in 2011 of Oregon's cultural or natural history attracted visitors to the state
  • Tangible evidence exists to support nominee's effort to draw visitors to the state, which also exemplify best practices and sustainability

2010 Recipient: The Pendleton Round-Up Association

OREGON SUSTAINABLE TOURISM LEADERSHIP AWARD

Purpose: Recognizes an individual's outstanding leadership, stewardship, and socially responsible practices in 2011, as demonstrated by a strong commitment to decreasing the environmental impact of the tourism and hospitality industry.

Eligibility:

  • Nominee: an Oregon individual involved in the tourism and hospitality industry
  • Nominee exemplifies outstanding leadership, stewardship, and socially responsible practices
  • Tangible examples exist of nominee's strong committment in 2011 to decreasing the environmental impact of the tourism and hospitality industry

2010 Recipient: Kevin Graham, Executive Chef at the Embassy Suites, Portland - Downtown

OREGON TOURISM & HOSPITALITY EXCEPTIONAL PARTNERSHIP AWARD

Purpose: Recognizes a group of Oregon tourism industry organizations which have collaborated to create and promote a successful tourism program, promotion, or product in 2011 which is more successful than any single entity could have produced alone.

Eligibility:

  • Nominee: a group of Oregon tourism organizations, businesses, communities or tourism regions
  • Nominee group collaborated in 2011 on the creation and promotion of a tourism program, promotion, or product
  • Success of the program, promotion, or product could not have been attained without the group
  • Tangible evidence exists to support the nomination, which also exemplifies best practices and sustainability

2010 Recipient: Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area 25th Anniversary Committee

OREGON TOURISM & HOSPITALITY TOURISM DEVELOPMENT AWARD

Purpose: Recognizes creation of an innovative program, promotion, or product in 2011 which exemplifies best practices, sustainability, and creative problem solving.

Eligibility:

  • Nominee: an Oregon organization, business, community or tourism region
  • Nominee created an innovative program, promotion, or product in 2011
  • Tangible evidence exists to support nominee’s best practices, sustainability, and Creative problem solving

2010 Recipient: Visit Bend - The Bend Ale Trail

OUTSTANDING OREGON TOURISM VOLUNTEER AWARD

Purpose: Recognizes the significant commitment by an individual who exemplifies the impact of volunteers in Oregon’s tourism and hospitality industry and on Oregon’s economy.

Eligibility:

  • Nominee: an Oregon individual who volunteered unpaid time in 2011 to a tourism-related endeavor
  • Nominee exemplifies the outstanding contribution made by volunteers throughout Oregon’s tourism and hospitality industry
  • Tangible examples of nominee’s contributions can be identified; illustrations of efforts illustrating best practices and sustainability by the nominee are encouraged

2010 Recipient: Del Stephens and Jim Pex of the Oregon Tuna Classic
